Working with Piper in one on one consultations to discuss racial equity and inclusion to help my practice as a dance teacher has been of great value to me, and I hope indirectly to my students. Piper is super supportive and encouraging, and working with her is part of how I practice being a better teacher AND how I take care of myself at the same time.
In an equity consultation session, Piper:
-
Holds space for me to process my own reflections on what happens in the studio, with both grace and directness that helps me feel less stuck and work through feeling overwhelmed to taking one step at a time.
-
Offers context that helps me further my own understanding and challenge my assumptions.
-
Provides me a chance to work through situations confidentially, outside of professional development opportunities that are offered in the company of my colleagues.
